Senior Class President Jacob Park welcomed the large crowd, helping his classmates to reminisce about their past, and brought out the lighter side as he created laughs with the fun memories. Class representatives Allie Jackson and Bettina Khanthongdy were chosen as the class speakers. Each gave advice for their fellow graduates, reminding them to chase their dreams, remember where they came from and to use "sunscreen."
The Cessna 3.75 Scholars were honored, 26 of the 140 graduates received the award. They included Jaime Adams, Gregory Benda, Sean Biggins, Samantha Christian, Megan Dyer, Johnathan Frerichs, Alison Hayes, Elizabeth Hoover, Morgan Huntington, Monica Japuntich, Samantha Kantak, Karissa Kennedy, Bettina Khanthongdy, Cara McNiel, Christine Monson, Jessica Nilles, Nicholas Oberender, Kristen Peterson, Hanna Pint, Kellie Pruismann, Matthew Reeves, Allison Trampel, Elizabeth Trepp, Jake Van Diest, Nathan Watne and Kathryn Wollan.
Vocal Director Nicole Farley led Webster City vocalists in "The Awakening" and "This House," receiving a hug from each senior as they went back to their chairs. Instrumental Director Roger Steig led the band with "Pomp and Circumstance" as the graduates entered Jeff Gym. The band also played the "Fall River Overture," and "Fanfare and Recessional" as they left the building.
Afterwards the graduates gathered on the west side of the school, receiving congratulations from family and friends, taking pictures, showing off signed diplomas and some even enjoyed a fat cigar off to the side.
The graduates were also reminded that Commencement means the beginning, and even as their high school career ends, these 2008 graduates are now able to follow their dreams and the start of the next piece of their lives.
